La Nuit du Chasseur Part 2
They walked quickly down the almost empty street. The night was cold and their breath lingered in the crisp air. The street lamps gave everything in this part of the city an almost old world feel. They began making their way toward the outskirts of the city. Their footsteps echoed from the cobblestone street, down the alleyways, into what seemed like oblivion. Jared had been talking almost compulsively since leaving the club. Normally, he wasn’t so talkative. The woman with him remained quiet, observant, almost as if she were retaining every single syllable he was uttering.
Suddenly, she stopped in front of an old home that seemed abandoned. “This is where I’m staying.” Jared looked up and down the empty and eerily quiet street. “Um, here?”, he asked and pointed toward the building.”
“Yes”, she replied. “Is something wrong?”
“No. I just thought you would be more IN town instead of out here in the middle of…”
“Nowhere?”, she finished and laughed. “I wanted some peace and quiet. My stay here has been quite…. pleasant, actually. Besides, if you’re planning on making a lot of noise later on Mr. Leto…”
“Wait. How the hell do you know my last name? Have you been following me? How do you know me?”, he hissed between clenched teeth.
“Well”, she smiled sweetly, “If you really want to know, come inside.”, she winked and unlocked the door.
Every single nerve ending in Jared’s body screamed at him to run. Just run. But he had to know. He had a feeling this night was not going to be like any other night he had ever experienced in his life.
Jared walked into the darkened doorway and looked back behind him. If something were to happen to him, no one would know. Not even his brother knew what he had been up to for the last several weeks. ‘Seriously Jared, get a fucking hold on yourself. She’s just a chick.’, he thought. ‘Maybe she was just following you around and you didn’t realise it. Not like she’s gonna do anything weird.’
Jared closed the door behind him. “So what’s your name, beautiful?” The woman grinned as she finished lighting the candles in the hallway.
“You can call me…. Grace.”
“Ok, Grace, now would you explain to me how you know me or at least my name?”
“Jared, Jared, Jared. Always the impatient one. Why don’t we have a little fun first? Then I will tell you everything you want to know and more. As long as you behave.”, Grace winked.
In the distance the wind howled through the empty streets. Ignoring the nagging feeling in the pit of his stomach, Jared tried to muster a smile. “Then let’s begin.”
